FAQ's
The Child Study is following up with third-generation children, part of the Survey of Parents and Families. We want to understand how childhood experiences and development are associated with family wellbeing.
Our study is a birth cohort study, which follows the same people and families over time, and is one of the best tools to inform researchers and policy makers about what matters most for the wellbeing of families and children.
There are two parts to our study – you can choose to participate in any activity.
As your child gets older, we will invite you to participate in 45-60 minute surveys about your child’s health, development and family life.
We will also invite you to participate in a Zoom session with you and your child. It should take about 40-50 minutes and will involve puzzles and activities for your child to complete.
By participating in the survey, you are contributing valuable information about your family and families like yours. Your participation and that of others in the study are contributing to this being the longest birth cohort study of health in the United States. Birth cohort studies are one of the best tools to inform researchers and policy makers about what matters most for people’s well-being.
Please email us at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
Of course! This part of the study is completely optional. You can choose to do only the survey if you wish, or not participate at all. We are asking you to do the Zoom session because it would be incredibly helpful to the study to know why you don’t want to do it. Other moms will certainly have the same reaction and we want to do our best to make sure we're addressing any concerns.

These data will only be used for research purposes to study patterns in development over time among children participating in the study. We will not be looking at any child's individual scores.
