Child Study

You and your family have been part of the Survey of Parents and Families since it started about 27 years ago. The Generation 3 Study is following young families with children as they age to learn more about family wellbeing and child development.

You represent thousands of other people across the country. Birth cohort studies, like the Generation 3 study, follow the same people and families over time. They are one of the best tools to inform researchers and policy makers about what matters most for the well-being of families and children. Because of the participation of thousands of families over the past twenty-five years, this is the longest birth cohort study of health in the United States.

We invite you to join the Generation 3 study as we continue to follow the same 5,000 families who agreed to participate in this study when you were born.

As part of the Generation 3 Child Study, we will invite you to participate in 45-60 minute surveys about your child’s health, development, and family life. We will send you a $100 virtual Visa gift card as a thank you for your time.

As your child gets older, we will invite them to take part in a 40-50-minute Zoom. If your child is eligible, a staff member will invite you to schedule a Zoom session at a time that is convenient for you and your child.

You will need to be present with your child for the Zoom session. The session will consist of some questions and puzzles for your child to complete on a computer or laptop. A trained interviewer will go over the parts of the session with you and your child.

As a thank you for your time, you will receive a $100 virtual gift card sent to your email.

Your identity as a participant and any personally identifiable information you provide, including your answers, will be kept confidential and stored on encrypted computers. We follow strict practices to maintain the security of all data that could identify participants.

Your participation in the study is completely voluntary.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact the team at 855-447-2015 or [email protected].

You can take the survey online on your phone, tablet, or computer. You can also take the survey over the phone if you prefer.

For the Zoom session, you will need internet access and a laptop with at least a 13” screen for the interview. If you do not have steady internet or a 13” laptop, please let us know! You can still participate in our study.
